Full oil restoration to like-new condition

Transformer oil regeneration

We regenerate aged transformer oil on site, on energized transformers, restoring it to like-new condition without an outage. Adsorption removes the acids, sludge, oxidation products, and corrosive sulfur that build up over years of service, and the oil goes back to work measured against the standards for new oil — not drained, not replaced.

Standards & compliance: IEC 60422

What we do

Transformer oil does not just get dirty — it ages. Oxidation forms acids, acids form sludge, and corrosive sulfur attacks the windings and insulation. Filtration and drying cannot reverse that; regeneration can. We bring an Ekofluid REOIL regeneration plant to your site and run the oil through high-capacity adsorption, stripping out the chemical by-products of ageing and restoring the oil to fresh-oil specification.

The work is done on the energized transformer, sealed and automatic, so there is no outage, no oil transported off-site, and no interruption to supply. The sorbent is reactivated inside the plant and reused across hundreds of cycles, so a long campaign runs without constant sorbent changes. The same REOIL plant is available to own or to rent.

How it works

  1. Assessment

Our engineers test the oil and assess the transformer's condition, and confirm regeneration is the right treatment rather than treatment or replacement.

  2. Mobilization

The REOIL plant is delivered to your site and connected to the energized transformer.

  3. Regeneration

Oil circulates through the adsorption columns; acids, sludge, oxidation products, and corrosive sulfur are removed, with dehydration and degassing in line. The sorbent reactivates in-system and is reused.

  4. Verification

The regenerated oil is tested against the standards for new oil (IEC 60422, and in most cases IEC 60296) and the results documented.

  5. Completion

The transformer stays in service throughout; the oil is back to specification when the plant disconnects.

What you get

Oil restored to like-new condition, with each parameter brought back to fresh-oil quality and documented against IEC 60422 and, in most cases, IEC 60296:

Interfacial tension
> 40 mN/m
Acidity (neutralization number)
< 0,01 mg KOH/g
Dielectric dissipation factor (tan δ)
< 0,005
Water content
< 5 ppm
Corrosive sulfur (IEC 62535)
non-corrosive
DBDS
< 5 mg/kg

The transformer keeps its existing oil rather than taking a full replacement, the work happens without an outage, and you receive documented results measured against the standards for new mineral insulating oil. Regenerating the oil extends transformer life at a fraction of the cost of replacing the oil or the asset.
